One of a few cheesily-named (but otherwise technically-cool) robotics projects from UCSD Coordinated Robotics Lab. This one, the ‘iLean’, can balance and then climb on its pole to negotiate stiars and the like. Be sure to checkout the iHop and iFling too. More information on their projects here.
