Dan Gilbert: Why are we happy? Why aren’t we happy?
Great talk into research on happiness, synthesised happiness, and realingment of attitude to increase happiness. The latter aspect can also be seen in research in cognitive dissonance observed in children and monkeys where a sort of decision ‘hysteresis’ mechanism kicks in to reinforce your decision when forced to decide between two equal options. The talks shows that consious memory of the decision is not involved.
