AR on iPhone, why bother?
AR researchers and investors are still harping on about Apple refusing to support AR on their iPhone but why is this this such an issue when iPhone commands such a marginal portion of the smartphone market? Symbian represents more than half of all new smartphone sales and is not artificially restricted.
It’s probably down to the fact that the iPhone currently has all the limelight. It is the iconic smartphone and, although the majority of smartphones may be Symbian, how many Symbian devices would you recognise in the street? The iPhone integrates the App Store (selling software to customers effortless, maybe Ovi will get there one day); has guaranteed 24/7 Internet (downloading AR content on the fly is a given); has a growing market share; and lots of people making or influencing the decisions on investment probably have iPhones.
