System Flaw is the first AR game for the Nintendo DSi. It uses optical flow to track movement which appears to be pretty stable. When it does loose tracking (briefly in this video when the progress bar reaches the left-hand side of the DS screen, look at the radar, camera image and alien floating near monitor corner) it just looks like the aliens are moving in the opposite direction to the user to evade attack. This works because the aliens are already moving and positioned mid-air.

In many respect similar to this new iPhone AR game Mosquitoes, although this uses the compass for tracking as optical tracking is still not an option on the iPhone.

System Flaw is out now in the US at $30, although I’d want to read a few reviews first (of which there are none yet) before shelling out for this full price game. Out in Europe in Feb 2010. Mosquitoes is on the App Store for 99 cents.
